What in the heck am I doing this (this particular kind of thing--not my art in general) for? I mean, really, a grown woman, playing with weird paper and paint in this (apparently) random way. These are for my green project, which ends in a few days. I wish I could say the paint fumes are getting to me, but this is all water-based.
Left: 'Lady with Flowers,' c. 1478-80 by Andrea del Verrochio. Orginal in white marble. I used Sharpie poster paint pen on green paper.
Right: 'Portrait of Mlle Riviere,' c. 1806 by Ingres. Original is oil on canvas. Here I used gouaches and ink on patterned paper.

Thanks so much, Joyce. Your suggestion is a really good one. The painting series I've been working on is the polar opposite of the patterned paper series relating to my color study, but...I admit to feeling excited about the idea of using my own compostions as you suggest. We'll see! And I've been drawing the figure for years and years so I am fortunate in that regard. Good luck with your own figure studies!

I think these paintings on pattened paper are beautiful--it would be wonderful if you did do a series using this technique and your own compositions and offer them for sale--they are lovely. I enjoy your life drawings -you have such a handle on drawing the human form. I want to be able to do that someday.

Laura would you consider doing a commissioned work such as your green study of the portrait on the right?

Oops, I gave the wrong impression! I was only questioning the two particular pieces--you know, playing around with construction paper and making a painting of a painting--not things I usually do as an artist! I know why I paint, in general--it is what I'm supposed to do. I thank you for your supportive comments, though!
