I've never, ever been to a friendlier town than San Antonio. At the San Antonio Museum of Art, the guards made me feel like a rock star---they were so interested in my sketches and so complimentary. But all the San Antonians we met were like that---warm, lively, outgoing. Even the birds are gregarious and full of song.
The museum has a large collection of Latin American art, both that brought from the old world and other work created in the new.

So, adios, San Antonio. Hope I see you again.
On the home front, I found these furly ranunculus at the first farmers' market of the season.

Ranunculus! I've tried and failed several times to capture them in watercolor. I can really appreciate what you've done here. Gorgeous.
And the masks too. Shadow color...you're really good.

Thank you for your very nice responses, one and all! Suzanne, I love what you're doing for your students. I'll have to go back and check out their latest work. Anna, I painted the faces from the museum later. Katherine, I agree with you that they are faces. They're not in the format of my faces project, though. I may have to bend my own rules and include them ;D.

I came across your blog last night & spent ages pouring over it. And you're so productive. I've never added colour to my sketches. The colour in yours add so much life to them. You may me want to loosen up. I'll keep visiting your site. I want to find out what you're up to next.
