I'm back after a week in cold, cold, sometimes rainy, always inspiring Paris. Casey and her daughter Claire and I walked at least 1,000 miles in six days. You may find this hard to swallow, of course, and that is your prerogative. My feet tell me it was 1,000 miles and I believe them. Gosh, it was fun, even though none of us was really dressed warmly enough and I came back with a whopping cold as a souvenir! Mais bon.
Here are the first batch of sketches. I worked in two sketchbooks---one a small accordion sketchbook like the one I used in Hawaii. This one I used for sort of general travel vignettes---the last three sketches of this post come from the small book. The other was a larger accordion sketchbook I'd dedicated to fountain sketches several months ago. Some of these fountains you will have seen before, but my past sketches of them weren't done in
the sketchbook dedicated solely to fountains ( are you still with me here?), so I had to do them again. It was like resketching old friends.
More to come!

I just love the one of the lady at the desk. Fantastic.

The sketches are glorious, Laura, and I totally believe that you walked at least 1000 miles. I do hope you stopped off in a cafe along the way....

Thank you so much, kind commenters!! It was a wonderful trip, in spite of the weather. With such great company and my favorite city, how could it have been otherwise? Jandi, thank you for your suggestion! Can't I just pretend I have a pedometer and say I walked 1016.72 miles? ;D Ronell, I notice you and Casey omitted the sketches of our lunch with all the glasses of wine ;P.

Glad yo hear you're back home safe Laura! Sorry for the cold though, maybe the same bug attacked us, I've been walking around with the same thing.
Your sketches and Casey's are beautifully different ...and it was great seeing them both in original form, just nothing compares to seeing it "live"!Just lovely work!

Gorgeous drawings, Laura! I'm new here...just found your blog. Re: walking 1000 miles...here's a suggestion: wear a pedometer. I was in Paris during the transit strike last year and we walked 15.8 miles one day! Twelve miles was the average most days. Set the "stride length" in the pedometer to your true saunter-length and then you can be very accurate when you say, "We walked 1016.72 miles."
