In which our heroine discovers that the best things in life are free.
On the last day in Barcelona, I was strolling the heights of Parc Güell when I heard the most sublime music ever---it was jazzy and ethereal at the same time. I couldn't imagine what instruments could produce those sounds! Following the park's sinuous paths to the source of the music, I joined the spellbound group of listeners. Here is what we saw:
And here is what it sounded like, that hang drum, that clarinet, that kora, played by those so talented men:
and:
Beautiful, no?
Another night we went to a pricey performance of flamenco music at el Tablao de Carmen. It was the dinner theater version of flamenco---touristy and soulless. Making flamenco soulless---that's quite a feat.

We were there in October. Isn't it a fun city? Your sketches are wonderful! xoxox

That music is indeed heavenly and the drawings are delicious as well.

Thank you so much, kind people. I'm glad you liked the music, too---wish I'd bought several copies of their fantastic cd, but only bought one.

I've been enjoying the music. Many thanks, Laura.
It shows in the sketches, where you were most inspired and relaxed. That's why the first two are my favourites. Wonderful - done on the spot with people milling around; amazing!

You captured these guys beautifully, Laura! The sentiment in your post reminds me of Joni Mitchell's song "For Free."

I love the music - and your sketches really capture the musicians.
