Not so droll doll

Here I've answered the weekly drawing challenge from an online drawing group, Everyday Matters. This week it is to be a toy or a much loved, long held object. I bought a collection of old dolls a few years back and this is one of the collection. Don't ask why I did this. I think it was because I was fascinated with the subtext of the dolls' faces, expressions and postures. I believe this doll dates from the 1940s, which wasn't a very droll decade, when you think about it.

Housekeeping musings

Rather than post all daily sketches in the main part of this blog, I think I'll just add them to the My Sketchbook photo album, which I have now arranged in decending order by date taken. That way I can post even not-so-successful efforts, without subjecting the poor things to center stage.  However, that makes it harder to post a comment, I guess, if one were so inclined.  Hmm.

Pondering flower choice for garden mural. Hmm. Lots more to think about.

The early bird catches the fern

  I'm working on a mural commission now, so no time for my own paintings, but I still have my early bird rendezvous with the sketchbook. Worms, anyone?

Looking for orange in all the right places

Today's sketchbook spread is devoted to orange. I'm forcing myself this year to learn about and use colors that I've neglected in the past. My palette until recently has been dominated by blues and neutrals. What could be more different from those than orange? (Though, by the way, orange is a lot more various than I'd given it credit for, and goes all the way from garish international orange to tender apricot and earthy sienna.)

It will never be perfect, this blog.

I've been working on this for over two weeks and if I keep on at this rate, it'll be 2020 before I get it all the way I want it. So, I'm just plunging in---typos, incomplete info and all. I can work out the bugs later. Voila.
