Our lovely daughter C came back from a trip to California with a high fever and horribly inflamed throat. A quick trip to the doctor yesterday morning yielded the diagnosis of 'massive strep infection. ' In the waiting room, all bundled up, reading a magazine, she let me draw her. She's been an artist's daughter all her life---these impromptu drawing sessions are part of her territory.
Later, after she'd been medicated and fed and ensconced cozily at home again, I was able to use the ticket I had to see the Monet show at our state museum. Afterwards, in the spirit of getting ready for my 101 Faces project, I sketched a couple of heads from the museum's European gallery.
The first is from a circa 1500 painting by Giovanni Antonio Boltraffio called ' Portrait of a youth crowned with flowers.' And I'd assumed it was a girl the entire time I stood there drawing!
The second is a profile from the 1625 painting by Jan Lievens, ' The Feast of Esther.'
I'm in the midst of tidying and reorganizing the small room I euphemistically call my studio, in preparation for a return to acrylic painting. What a mess! It'll take a few days to get everything in order so I can start in earnest on my 2007 projects. Onward!
