My dear friends D and S lent me their gorgeous apartment for my Charleston stay. Part of a house built in the 1850s, their place has 13' high ceilings, heart pine floors, plantation shutters, walls full of contemporary paintings, and a French bergere that I wanted so badly to spirit away. I thought better of that impulse, you'll be relieved to hear. Here's a small corner of the living room, a sketch on which I'll write my thank you note to them.
A small fountain at White Point Gardens caught my eye, as fountains are wont to do.
And one last February face, my charcoal pencil sketch of a Rubens chalk sketch.
Very nice !

What a treat, as always. I was studying the color images to see what it was that I liked so much about them and I found that it was your limited analagous palette of soft rich browns in the interior and the lovely blues and greens in the outdoor picture. Do you do this intuitively or by conscious intention? The statue is heartbreakingly beautiful. You're amazing!

All I can say is, "Wow!" Would love to see Charleston again.

Gosh, thank you all for so many lovely comments! These are done on 8" x 10" paper, Dee and everyone. I used to avoid drawing and painting interiors, but after a month of sketching only interiors last year (see January 2006 archives or Interiors Gallery at left), I grew to like doing them.
