I struggled at first with the images of water in Hawaii---how to find my own idiom to render them? This isn't something you can exactly pre-plan, or at least, I can't. I flubbed many sketches, did lots of pencil studies of the movement of water, before I hit on a way to make the thing work for me. I've just begun to figure it out and thank heavens for all my studies. I have enough from my scant five days there to allow me to experiment more and try to put to use in larger work what I learned from the pieces below. And then there's the next mystery destination, which I'll go to in June. There will be LOTS more there to challenge and stimulate me!
Oh wow, wow, wow.
Your colours are second to none.

Gosh, thank you so much for so many wonderful comments! It's nice to have all of your positive feedback as I try to figure out how to convey water and related images. Yes, I did love Hawaii! The mystery destination is not Tahiti ;D. Mary Sheehan, you (and everyone) can subscribe to my blog via Bloglines---there's a clickable link at the top right of this page.
