This is what the sidewalk told me this morning, as I made an intense hour-long power walk, hoping to clear my head and calm my mind.
In the midst of a summer that continues in too many ways to be... trying, the exhortation to be good and do good and to keep my sense of wonder is perfect, just what I needed to be reminded of.
Wednesday, I'm off to Portland, Oregon, you may remember, for the Urban Sketchers Symposium and I can't wait! I know I will come back bursting with energy, inspiration, and creativity. I will certainly have many images to share here.
Here's my newly streamlined sketching equipment---I HAD to go lighter. I had way too much stuff to lug around in Normandy in late May! Here you see my travel Schmincke paintbox, altered to hold some full pans, Kuretake brush pens filled with acrylic inks, Cretacolor oil pencils, various other brushpens, and a couple of Maruman sketchbooks, both of which Jerry's Artarama has insanely decided to drop from their inventory!!
I have been trying, these past two weeks, to collect myself, to be tranquil and to let my artist's soul be filled again. That process continues.
See you in a few days!
These drawing are amazing. You have a simple pan set which i adore, you know - going back to the routs. Don;t ever stop traveling and drawing.

It's a shame that Jerry's isn't carrying the Maruman folding sketchbooks anymore! I got a couple at the Kinokuniya bookstore in New York last year, I think. It's on Sixth Avenue between 40th and 41st, right across from Bryant Park. Even though they have a cornucopia of art supplies in the store, they seem to only carry books on their website, but there is a phone number and e-mail address on their website for special orders. Also, according to the website, there is a Kinokuniya in or near Portland (it's listed as Portland, but the address says Beaverton --- perhaps that's a section of Portland? Who knows, I'm in D.C.!) Here is the address and phone: 10500 S.W. Beaverton-Hillsdale Hwy, Beaverton, OR 97005; Phone: 503-641-6240.

You do beautiful work, Laura, with a lot or a little equipment! I love my little Schmincke pan set--just seeing all those little pans of color makes me happy!
The sidewalk graffito is just perfect!
