It's hot. It's dry. It's August. It's particularly hot and dry THIS August. But good news! It's time for one of the stars of the late summer garden---cleomes.

I have some I grew from seed. I have some I bought as bedding plants. The seed ones have withstood this horrible summer better than the others. 

I LOVE cleome's spidery exuberance.

There are several sketches left, but let's get them all out on the table, shall we? What a weekend it was! On to Lisbon next year!

Urban Sketchers Symposium sketches!

It was an amazing, amazing weekend in Portland! Gabi and the other organizers worked SO hard to make it happen---and the unanimous consensus was that it was a smashing success! Here are some sketches I made while there, with some color splashed on today for added oomph. I was, for some reason, in a kind of black and white mood over the weekend, which made no sense whatsoever, but there we are.
