I am besotted with August. I love August light, August stillness, August ripeness. Really, no other word than 'love' to describe my feeling will do.
It's been a quiet month on the outside for me, but not on the inside. I'm working a lot and playing a lot, too.
I'm reading Michael Pollan's wonderful book A Place of My Own and there I found this quote:
' "Chi" is the Chinese word for the earth spirit, or cosmic breath, which flows in invisible currents over the face of the earth... . This earth spirit animates all living things.'
Doesn't it just!
In these pieces, I'm leaping back and forth between the particular and the abstract, between what I know and what I feel, between line and shape, all the while reveling in texture and color. No expectations, no worries. Following the chi.
Oh, and I'm getting a blog tune-up this week, a fresh look, and updated functions! Come back and check on us, me and Laurelines!
Evidently my comment went to spam because it had links. I'll just have to let you look them up if you like! Suzannah Smith Miles did a beautiful guest post on my blog called "August Light." Really nice.
And I also asked you whether you knew Michael Pollan's wife because I think you might like her art work! Judith Belzer. She overlapped with me at Yaddo.
And I liked these, of course. You have a great sense of energy and captured life: a thing we all want, whatever our art.

Laura, do you know the paintings of Michael Pollan's wife, Judith Belzer? I overlapped with her at Yaddo and really liked her and her work. Next time you're in the Bay area, Miss Traveler...
Did you see "my" guest post by Suzanna Smith Miles about August light? If not, you ought to read it. Really lovely.

Another beautiful set. Yes, that second to the last is powerful. LOVE IT! Great energy is right! The images you've been doing are wonderful. I imagine you painting these like a whirling dervish. Looking forward to seeing your new blog look.

Hi Laura! I especially love the next-to-last piece, with the layering, but they are all full of energy and life. Chi!

Beautiful, Laura. Can't wait to see what else you change here. I like the layers here!
