Here I emerge, bleary-eyed but happyish for today, to share with you one of my recent illustrations. (Bleary-eyed because of lots of work and deadlines...I'm making progress, though!)
This was my first (and I hope not last) assignment for Charleston Style and Design magazine. I thoroughly enjoyed it because a) I love fireflies and all things that soar and shimmer (meteors, anyone?) and b) I like very much the essay that was the reason for the assignment. Read it below, I think you will, too; and c) this job allowed me to work in a slightly different way from my usual way(s), and d) I have a complicated and deeply meaningful relationship with Charleston, SC. This assignment gave me a new connection with that beautiful place.
Here, then, is a screenshot of the page the essay and illustration appear on, followed by a capture of the original illustration, differently proportioned from the one in the magazine.
Meantime, I have 9 illustrations to appear in the upcoming issue of Walter magazine and 7 spot illustrations in another city magazine, new as a client to me, to appear in their September issue. I will tell more about the latter later... first I need to do the work! I'm still in the studio working on pieces for my upcoming art show, which opens on August 30th. You can see that I have come by my bleary eyes honestly.
I hope you are more than happyish, I hope you have reached full-tilt happy! I will join you there soon(ish!)
Congratulations on the feature! It's amazing! You must be very proud :0)
