Turkey, last sketches

I've dragged this on longer than I'd have liked to, but the good part is that Turkey has stayed with me vividly for weeks! Don't you hate it when life gets in the way of art,though? I do LOVE the warm palette that Turkey demands---and all the textures and patterns you see everywhere around you! In three weeks, I'll be gone again, but then I'll stay put until the end of the year. I'll be going to Normandy, with a quick side trip to Brittany---on the trail of gardens I have fallen in love with via the printed page! It'll be kind of a garden pilgrimage. I'll be sketching all the way, bien sûr! I'll be back here before I leave, of course. I'm always, ALWAYS trying to find the perfect sketching tools to take on trips and this is no exception. I'll be posting about that and also about my sketching process. Don't you hate to say goodbye to Turkey, though?

Turkey sketches, part three!

Gosh, these make me happy, these recent memories put to paper and words. Ephesus is one of the most poignant and magnificent places I have ever seen. To walk the roads and byways of that ancient place of power and beauty would bring tears to your eyes. It did to mine. We sailed one whole day of my trip---and since I was only there for six days that's a lot of sailing-related images! I was so taken with Sedat our driver's stunning profile, I drew him very first thing, in the car, on bumpy roads, quickly! Yet more sketches to come!

Turkey sketches, part one!

I LOVED my week in Turkey!  I had a sense of breathlessness the entire time, in awe and delight at this beautiful, historically and culturally rich country, and charmed by the nicest people, collectively, I've ever met. They're magnificent looking, too, by the way. WHAT an adventure it was! 

I was SO lucky to have adorable and gracious hosts who did everything they could for Casey and me. I'll always be grateful for their kindness.
